January 2000 MTCV Itinerary

Sunday 9th Wilson’s Promontory Geoff Barton leading 9.00 am KBCP, 9.45 am Hallam

Geoff lives and breathes the area, living in Loch, milking early morning, riding all day, and milking again at night. What a life! Come and see what a high kay R1100GS can do on unusual and interesting roads. Expect at least 450 km for the day. Note early start.

Sunday 16th Thompson’s Dam, Walhalla Mk II Ian Payne leading 9.30 am KBCP, 10.15 am Hallam

All planned and ready to go last time and no-one turned up! The fact that it was pouring rain might have had something to do with it. Great roads. Ian riding his new touring bike – just ask AMCN. Always a pleasure. Expect around 400 km for the day.

Thurs. 20th Social Sip – Hotel Canada, 596 Swanston Street Carlton. Last one before we move.

Sat. 22nd Walwa – formerly Tallangatta (5 days) Ben Warden leading

to Wed. 26th 10.30 am Whittlesea, 11.15 am Yea

After consultation with likely starters, and having recently stayed at both Tallangatta and Walwa Hotels, the consensus opinion is that we should relocate our base to Walwa, another 88 km down the highway. It is a much better Pub, and places us closer to the fantastic riding roads around The Snowy Mountains Highway, Corryong, far eastern Victoria and south eastern NSW. Probably the best weather and riding country available. Always sensational. Hitch a ride with someone on a trailer. Stay one day or five. Be there.

Wed. 26th Reefton Spur Dave Ward leading

(Aust. Day) 10 am Yarra Glen

Australia Day and you are looking for a ride. Dave Ward is your man. Follow him around the Spur(s) and you’ll learn plenty. Dave’s toughest choice for the day is whether to take the RGV or the 748. Expect around 250 km for the day.

Sunday 30th Trentham Falls Geoff Jones leading

9.30 am KBCP, 10.30 am Whittlesea

He’s gotta go west, probably across to Wallan, Romsey and Woodend for morning tea. The falls are pretty spectacular and well worth the short walk. Beautiful cool country to ride around in the middle of summer. Expect around 400 easy kilometres for the day.
