April Who’s News

The MTCV Home Page has taken 203 hits during April and 5453 since April 1996. Look to see more information such as magazine articles up on the web in the members only section. (I’ll try and do something this month, I promise.)

Road Conditions Reporting Line: 9854-2899 where motorcyclists can report road conditions and give suggestions for improvement on any road in Victoria.

Seen at the April Social Sip at the Blackburn Hotel: Ian Payne, Derek Atkinson, Kathy Robinson, Bronwyn Manifold, Dave Ward, Darryn Webster, Rhys Williams, Ron and son Johnston, Harry Miller, Jon Riddett, Zara, and Bruce Saville. Thirteen people is a few down on last month, but as it fell on Easter Thursday of a long weekend, with many people travelling to Bathurst or Phillip Island, the turnout is quite reasonable.

Rumour has it that Danny Kosinski is going to produce an article of the Romsey ride for this esteemed organ. We haven’t missed one in the last two years, Danny, and I am relying on you to maintain this high standard. That’s what I printed last month, and it failed. Worst still, its catching! Jacinta Thomas was going to write up the most eventful Lavers Hill via the Great Ocean Road ride, and it aint happened yet. Ed.

Our President Ian Payne is touring Tasmania with Kerrie, unfortunately (for us) coinciding with the AGM. The good part is that Ian has agreed to nominate for President for another year. We wish Ian and Kerrie an interesting and safe trip. Kerrie is doing the Cradle Mountain to St Helens walk. Did Bronwyn go with her?

The new itinerary is almost complete and will be distributed on upcoming rides and at the next general meeting. It will be up on the web soon.

It has been brought to the Committee’s attention that an individual non-member has been riding unlicensed on Club rides. The Club does not condone such behaviour. The obvious problem is what happens in the case of an accident. Complex issues of insurance which cannot be handled in the normal way, since a rider cannot be insured if he has no licence, are of grave concern. The Committee reminds members that the onus is on them to ensure they do not bring along friends who are unlicensed. The current situation has been resolved. It is intended that in future ride leaders mention in their pre-ride spiel the Club requirement that riders be licensed, and will be prompted to do so by a Committee person.

Note the inclusion of a membership list at the back of the magazine. It also lists the six Life Members, a detail missing for the last few printings. From the constitution it states:

Life membership will be bestowed by the Committee on any member who, in the opinion of the Committee, has given exceptional service to the Association. Life membership will carry all rights of Full Membership, but Life Members will be exempted from paying membership fees.

Which leads to the definition of Full Membership, as per the constitution:

Full membership will be open to persons who have attended at least three (3) functions organised by the Association and who satisfy the Committee that they would be worthy members. Applications will be sponsored by two (2) financial Full members and one (1) Committee member.
