October 2000 MTCV Itinerary

Sunday 8th Maldon Steam Train Ian Payne leading 9.30 am KBCP, 10.30 am Whittlesea

Historic Maldon is a heritage town with all buildings having to comply with a strict building code. Very unusual if you have not seen it before. Throw in the steam train run by volunteers at a quarter the price of Puffing Billy and just as good, the fire tower lookout, the steam shovel, a bundle of speciality shops including a motorcycle museum and it is a tourist mecca. Ian knows all the back roads, generally smooth and not too twisty. Could suit a pillion. Expect 350 easy km for the day.

Sunday 15th Trawool Pub Counter Lunch (short ride) Wayne Grant leading

10.30 am Whittlesea

Think Flowerdale, Strath Creek, Broadford, Pyalong, Seymour, Yea and your thinking fun, fun, fun. Grouse roads, top pub with views across rolling hills, reasonably priced menu. Short ride, but enough quality roads to sate the appetite. Could suit a pillion. Less than 250 km for the day.

Thurs. 19th Social Sip, 7 pm Elgin Inn Hotel, 75 Burwood Rd Hawthorn

New venue. Excellent food at fair price. Cosy, no pokies, suits small groups. Give it a try.

Sunday 22nd Marysville Bakery (short ride) Danny Kosinski leading

10.30 am Yarra Glen

Options include Black Spur, Reefton Spur, Mt Donna Buang, Lake Mountain, Kinglake, St Andrews, and Chum Creek Rd. Stick a combination of those together and you have Danny’s ride. A similar ride a month ago saw 23 sports bikes thrashing across the Reefton in blazing sunshine. Sensational. Note the ride is probably not suitable for inexperienced riders, despite the short distance. Expect around 300 hard, fun packed kilometers for the day.

Sunday 29th Phillip Island 500cc Gp

Make your own way and meet at the AMCN Expo 1 pm each day. Various people have accommodation on the Island. Look out for members, past and present.

Sunday 29th Buxton Pub Counter Meal 1pm (short ride) leader required

10.30 am Yarra Glen

Can’t spare the time or money to go to the Island? What about a short blast around the hills followed by a quiet meal and ale while watching the race on the big screen with like minded souls. Could be a good option. And avoid the post race traffic kaos. Decide on the day!
