December 2002                    MSTCV Itinerary

Sunday 8th       Snake Valley (Ballarat area)                                                               Geoff Jones leading

10.15 am West Gate Shell Service Station

Third time lucky. The last two attempts have failed due to the inclement weather. Interesting roads, historical gold mining country, easy ride. Expect around 380 km for the day.

Saturday 14th  Free Club Xmas BBQ, Fairfield Park Melways 30 J 12, 12 noon – 4 pm.

We meet under the big tree near the children’s playground. Look out for our Club flag. BYO alcohol and soft drinks if you prefer something harder than cordial. And you’ll need a camp chair or two. BBQ will fire up at midday to cater for about 40 people. If sausages and burgers aren’t your lot, then bring something more to your liking and it will get cooked. Often some of the really long standing members make an appearance. Close to the boat house if you feel inclined for a paddle. Bring the missus and kids and get to meet Club members in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. $5 for non-members.

Sunday 15th     Marysville Bakery                                                                                Dave Ward leading

                        10.15 am Yarra Glen

A thinly disguised Reefton Spur ride. Who knows what Dave will be riding as both his R1 and 996 are for sale. We might visit Mt Donna Buang or Lake Mountain for a little variation. Then again, the Toolangi roads (Myers Creek and Chum Creek roads) are proving popular. All good roads. Expect a satisfying 200 km worth of tight, twisty roads with the usual excessive tyre wear. Nominally a short ride.

Sunday 22nd    Mirboo North                                                                         Ben Warden leading 10.15 am Yarra Glen

A fairly standard Ben’s Mirboo North ride – honed to perfection after 20 years of searching for the best local roads. First stop Drouin via Powelltown and Jindivick after 115 km. If you miss the start, head for the Drouin Bakery. Then around to Mirboo North via the newly widened, glorious, Warragul – Leongatha road picking up the Arawata twisties, a smidge of dirt, then uninterrupted bliss to Boolara and Mirboo North. Suzuki’s normally run out of petrol on this leg, and tall stories are evident at lunch – the Bakery. Final leg is a skoot around the big sweepers, down to Hallyston and then back through the legendary Thorpdale corners and Trafalgar for another splash of fuel. Break-up at Warragul. Expect around 500 km on some of the best roads in Victoria. Note: this ride is not suitable for inexperienced riders.

26th – 1st Jan.  Xmas Camp, Mt Buffalo Caravan park, Porepunkah  - see details elsewhere

January 2003

Thurs. 2nd       Social Sip, 7 pm Whitehorse Inn, 5 Burwood Road Hawthorn

Sunday 5th       Eildon via Torbreck River                                                            Pete Weyermayr leading

                        10.15 am Yarra Glen

Join Pete on the first Club ride in the new year, and what a beauty!  One route would be up and down the Toolangi roads, then across the Black Spur to Marysville for morning tea and a top up of fuel. Then onto Buxton, Taggerty and the 37 km of uninterrupted twisty roads on the Eildon – Jamieson road (Torbreck River road) for a regroup, then back to Eildon for lunch. Home via Alexandra, the Molesworth Road, Yea and Flowerdale to break-up at Kinglake West. Of course, the route could be run backwards with a break-up at Healesville. All good roads. Expect around 350 km of exhilarating riding for the day.
