January 2003              MSTCV Itinerary

Sunday 5th       Eildon via Torbreck River                                                           Pete Weyermayr  leading

                        10.15 am Yarra Glen

Join Pete on the first Club ride for the new year, and what a beauty!  The route will be up and down the Toolangi roads, then across the Black Spur to Marysville for morning tea and a top up of fuel. Then on to Buxton, Taggerty and the 37 km of uninterrupted twisty roads on the Jamieson road for a regroup, then back to Eildon for lunch. Home via Alexandra, the Molesworth Road, Yea and Flowerdale to break-up at Kinglake West. All good roads. Expect around 350 km of exhilarating riding for the day. Be there.

Sunday 12th     Wonthaggi State Coal Mine                                                                     Ian Payne leading

                        10.15 am Hallam

Join Ian for interesting roads down to Loch for morning tea and then on to Wonthaggi and the Coal Mine, a popular tourist attraction. See how tough times were back then. Some of the guides are original workers and have a fantastic working knowledge of the times. Enjoy an underground cable car ride, learn about the problems of water and underground gas and the life of a coal pony living in total darkness. An entrance fee is required. Expect around 350 km for the day.

Friday 17th      Lake Mountain Night Ride                                                                   Geoff Jones leading

6.30 pm Yarra Glen Pub, 8.30 pm leave

Put this one in your calendar as it is easy to forget. And if you are bringing your partner, check your headlights aren’t pointing at the sky before you leave home. This ride is always well attended because it is fun riding in a group at night – especially in pitch black up the mountains. Expect to see some animal life if you are at the pointy end of the ride, otherwise follow that tail-light.  A good test of our corner marking system, the night ride offers some interesting challenges. Keep your wits about you. Expect around 200 km for the night. It normally finishes around mid-night at a local well lit fast food outlet.

Sunday 19th     Daylesford                                                                                          Rob Langer leading 10.15 am Whittlesea

The ideal ride in the middle of a hot summer; a little bit higher, a little bit cooler, lots of shady overhanging trees. Join Rob as he shows us some of the more interesting roads in the area, especially as he went to so much effort to investigate the area. Expect around 380 km for the day.

Friday 24th      Walwa Resort, Australia Day Weekend                                            Ben Warden leading

to Mon. 27th    2.30 pm Yarck

See elsewhere for a full description of the weekend. A commitment needed soon.

Sunday 26th     Café Cruise                                                                                           Di Welsford leading

11 am Café Cavalli, 161 Fitzroy St, St Kilda

A short ride with the emphasis on socialising. Suitable for a pillion. Could end up on the Boulevardes.
