March 2003                 MSTCV Itinerary

Sat. 8th                            Tasmania via Ferry Fourteen starters, all tickets and accommodation organised. We’ve  to Sun 16th      had one person drop out – work commitments - who is willing to give up their boat ticket.

So, if you can get a week off at short notice, see Ben.

Sunday 9th       Kinglake (short ride)                                                                          Bruce Saville  leading

                        10.15 am Yarra Glen

We’ll head back through Christmas Hills looking at the scenery and watching for cars coming out of driveways. At Kangaroo Ground we’ll turn right and head for Kinglake via the twisty St Andrews road, then along to Toolangi, down Myers Creek Road and back up Chum Creek road, then back to Kinglake for late morning tea or early lunch after about 120 km. From here we’ll make our way to Kinglake West, Flowerdale and Yea. At this point we’ll either head across to Molesworth and back to Healesville via the Black Spur, or head towards Seymour turning left onto the King Parrot Creek road and back to Kinglake West via Strath Creek and Flowerdale. A veritable smorgasbord of good roads. Expect around 250 km for the day. Set your VCR as the car GP will be on and there won’t be a car on the road.

Sunday 16th     Alexandra                                                                                                Greg Hales leading

                        10.15 am Yarra Glen

Speaking to the thin man, he says “across to Warburton, round the Reefton to Marysville for food, then up to Buxton, Taggerty, Eildon, Fraser National Park, Alexandra for lunch, then Molesworth Road, Yea, Kinglake West.” Top roads, suit big bore Japanese bikes. Expect a lazy 350 km for the day.

Sat. 22nd          Film Night, Langer Residence – 390 Burwood Highway, Burwood (Melways Ref. 47F6)

7 pm to eat, 8 pm “Outback Adventures”. BBQ and salads provided.

Sunday 23rd    Licola                                                                                                 Ron Johnston  leading

                        9.30 am Hallam

Join Ron on a 500 km long ride to Licola. First stop will be Moe via Drouin and Ellinbank for morning tea and fuel for some. Then back roads to Heyfield via Tyers followed by 50 km of twisty roads to Licola. Sensational road – but unforgiving. Home much the same way. It is marked as not suitable for inexperienced riders or first time Club riders. The culture shock that hits first time Club riders makes it unwise, and statistically dangerous for first timers to join us on this ride. Don’t invite a buddy.

Sunday 30th     Buxton Counter Lunch (short ride)                                         Ben Warden leading

                        10.15 am Yarra Glen

The Superbikes are on at Phillip Island this weekend. Set the VCR and come for a short ride through the hills before a counter lunch around 1 pm. Or ride or drive there directly. Around 200 km for the day.

April 2003

Thurs. 3rd        Social Sip, 7 pm Whitehorse Inn, 5 Burwood Road Hawthorn

Sunday 6th       Marysville Bakery (short ride)                                                           Dave Ward   leading

                        10.15 am Yarra Glen

Usually a well attended ride. Everyone knows the roads. The Reefton offers the best sports bike riding close to Melbourne with its uninterrupted swervery for 19 kilometres. Watch out for oncoming vehicles and not over cooking it as the road rewards smooth riding and has little margin for error. Challenging, yet exhilarating. Of world wide fame. Dave may throw in a mountain pass as well, such as Mt Donna Buang, as the warm up. Expect around 300 km of hard riding for the day.
