Club fees are due. This is your last bonus magazine if you haven’t subscribed. See the back page for a renewal form, or if you can’t bear to damage the magazine, print one off from the web page. The option to pay electronically is available. Please do as it simplifies the money handling.

Front Cover: Danny Kosinski on his GSXR1000.  He went on every ride last month including five in a row, a fine effort. Picture taken on the 27th of January at Tom Groggin on the Alpine Way using Ben’s digital Kodak 6440. We were on a 500 km day trip out of Corryong on the Australia Day long weekend.

The MTCV Home Page took 341 hits during July and has taken 20,904 since April 1996. This is up 50 from last month, possibly as a result of the free publicity we received in the Age newspaper Drive section, Thursday 29th July, but more likely the wet weather keeping people indoors and on the computer. There was a three page series of articles around the theme “Cashed-up baby boomers are rediscovering the joys of touring bikes …”  The select list of relevant web sites included the Ulysses, Gold Wing, BMW, “Women in Motorcycling Association (WIMA) clubs, and us. Not sure how we fit into that group exactly other than the word “touring” in our name.

There is now a new, easier to remember, URL for the webpage: www.mstcv.unimelb.edu.au. The old one still works. Note the server “ariel” was replaced 10 days ago (by the time you read this) resulting in some teething problems, for instance there was no security on the “Members Only” section for a short time. And on Friday the server crashed such that there was no access to the web page. This was critical as the footy tipping page didn’t work either! All fixed now.

Seen at the July Social Sip: Ron & Julie Johnston, Peter Philferan, Enzo Cunico, Ian Payne, Pete Weyermayr & Liz Oliver, Paul Southwell, Trevor Harris, Ben & Julie Warden, Bill & Kay Wee. 13 people

The Club Participant of the Year is based on aggregate points accumulated at 1 point per ride, an extra point for leading or being rear rider, and 1 point per Magazine article (maximum 2 per Magazine). Attending 1 or more days of a weekend event scores 3 points for leading, 3 for rear riding duties and 2 points for participating. The 2004/5 is now two months old. The top eight points’ scorers are: Ben Warden (20), Paul Southwell (17), Ron Johnston (15), Peter Weyermayr (13), Robert Langer (11), Ian Payne (9), Nigel Hellyer (9), Martin Hastie (8) and Liz Oliver (8).

Email from Liz and Pete: We are leaving on Thursday morning (Aug 5th) to drive up to Adelaide. On Friday afternoon we put the car and ourselves on the Ghan, arriving around Saturday lunch time in Alice Springs. From there we will spend some time heading north and seeing the sights along the way. We plan to check out Darwin, Kakadu Nat Park, Katherine Gorge etc etc etc. Then we will head back and spend some time around Ayers Rock and Kings Canyon. Then the long drive home. We will be back on the 27th of August giving us just over 3 weeks to do all of this. It should be fun. We don't have anything booked other than the train and first night in Adelaide and Alice Springs.

At last Geoff and Val Jones have moved into their new house. The new address is 27 Wyralla Crescent, Gisborne Vic 3437 Their new home phone number is 5428-2663.

Dave Ward headed off to Italy, France and the UK on a work related trip, leaving on the 19th and arriving back home on the 30th of July.  He visited bakeries and investigated new equipment.

The Club received a flyer advertising a motorcycle clothing sale at the Royal Melbourne Show Grounds, August 27th, 28th and 29th, 10 am to 10 pm daily. Entry via Epsom Road. biggest brands, “lowest prices”, including AGV, FOX, Alpine stars, Dri Rider, etc.

Late breaking news: Student Lens was knocked off his Bandit 1200 last Monday on the way to work sustaining a compound broken thumb and soft tissue damage to his right foot. His thumb was operated on and he left the Alfred Hospital Wednesday night. A car turned right in front of him failing to give way to oncoming traffic.  The bike sustained minor cosmetic damage. We wish him a full and speedy recovery.
