January 2004              MSTCV Itinerary

Sunday 11th     Eildon via Torbreck River                                                           Pete Weyermayr  leading

                        10.15am Yarra Glen

First stop Marysville via the Black Spur for a quick splash of fuel for the thirsty TLs and anything that can’t go another 125 km to Eildon. Maybe a spot of breakfast for slow starters. Then up to Buxton and Taggerty followed by 37 km of uninterrupted twisty road down to the Torbreck River. Then another 40 kms back to Eildon for a well earned lunch.  Home via Fraser National Park, Alexandra, Molesworth, and Yea to break up at Kinglake West. Expect around 300 km for the day.

Fri. 16th           Lake Mountain Night Ride                                                                   Geoff Jones leading

Yarra Glen Pub          6.30pm to eat, 8.30pm to leave

Excellent food and service at the pub followed by a gentle ride into the sunset. A good headlight is essential as wildlife is abundant – more so for the leader who acts as a snow plough, clearing a path for the following riders. Though only a short ride, don’t expect to be home before midnight. Usually great fun. The stars are a sight to see from atop Lake Mountain. Suitable for a pillion.

Sunday 18th     Mirboo North                                                                           Ben Warden leading

                        10.15 am Yarra Glen

A mixture of fast, open sweepers crossed with a couple of transport sections between the good stuff. Great roads, sensational scenery, route perfected over the years to maximise fun and minimise the points risk. Ride not suitable for inexperienced riders due to the distances and highly technical (read dangerous, unforgiving) nature of the roads. Don’t bring a mate. Expect the unexpected: gravel in corners, farmers popping out of ground, Mr Plod falling from the sky. On the positive side, Gippsland has some of the best roads in Victoria (the nearest thing we have to the Corryong / Alpine region) that just seem to be getting better and better. Expect 500 hard kays, extreme tyre wear, and two days to recover. Should be grouse!

Fri 23rd  to       Towong (near Corryong) Australia Day Weekend                Ben Warden leading

Mon 26th  Jan.  (see elsewhere for a full description)

Sunday 25th     Highlands                                                                                                      leader required

                        10.15 am Whittlesea

Ray Walker was down to lead this one but without bike or day release we need another leader. Here is a possible route: Flowerdale, Strath Creek, Broadford, Pyalong, Lancefield (115km). Leg 2: Lancefield, Pyalong, Seymour, Highlands, Yea and back to Kinglake West.

February 2004

Sunday 1st       Jindivick (short ride)                                                                         leader required

                        10.15 am Yarra Glen

Given that Ron’s last attempt was a complete wash-out, five riders only getting as far as Healesville, let’s try again. The route will be via Powelltown to Drouin and back almost the same way, breaking up at Yarra Junction. Expect a round trip of 200 km of tight and twisty roads. Short ride, early finish. Be there.

Thurs. 5th       General Meeting, Club Hall

8.15pm Theatrette at rear of Camberwell Town Hall, Inglesby Rd, Melways 59J2.

Guest speaker, Margaret, from Motorcycle Roadtours Australia, will give an audio visual presentation on her national and international organised group motorcycle trips. Friends/partners welcome.
