May 2004                     MSTCV Itinerary

*Berwick* – new pick up point at Safeway Fuel +, Clyde Road, Berwick, Melways Reference 111 C10.

The Hallam Ampol Service station is no longer as attractive as it used to be, particularly with the introduction of the new Hallam by-pass. A lot of valuable riding time has been consumed negotiating the multitude of lights when leaving Hallam. Coming from the city, the new location is five exits past the usual Princes Highway Dandenong Warragul exit. At this 5th exit turn left (north) at the lights and head for Berwick proper. Next set of lights opposite McDonalds is the Safeway Fuel servo.  This change takes effect on the new itinerary, on the first ride to Loch.  See bottom of page.

Sunday 9th       Jindivick                                                                                        Pete Weyermayr leading

                        10am Yarra Glen

This is a short ride. The route will include Healesville, Powelltown, Neerim East, Jindivick, Drouin West, Bandy Creek and Drouin. Lots of interesting roads offering a great variety, from high speed sweepers to up hill, tight and twisty. The return route will be much the same way, breaking up at Yarra Junction. The weather forecast is looking excellent so get a leave pass now. Expect around 210 km for the day.

Sunday 16th     Meredith Counter Lunch                                                                       Geoff Jones leading

                        10am Whittlesea

If you are heading there directly or taking the car, we expect to arrive around 1.15 pm. Starting at Whittlesea, we’ll head west through the volcanic regions of Wallan and Romsey to Woodend. Then into the forested areas heading generally south through Trentham, Blackwood, Greendale, Ballan and Meredith for lunch. Rug up as it will be cold, even if it is fine. Snow is not out of the question. Depending on numbers and weather conditions, Geoff may lead us back to either Werribee, Melton or Diggers Rest, after a loop of the Brisbane Ranges. Expect a brisk 350 km for the day.

Sunday 23rd   Marysville                                                                                         Ron Johnston  leading

                        10am Yarra Glen

From Yarra Glen we’ll head across to Healesville and up Chum Creek Road to Toolangi. At the Highway we’ll head north past Glenburn and work our way through the very rarely travelled back roads to Murrindindi and Limestone surfacing near Yea. Then onto Molesworth and Alexandra for lunch. We’ll then head across to Eildon via Skyline Road and down to Taggerty and Marysville before disbanding at Healesville. Expect around 240 km for the day. Route may vary depending on the weather conditions.

Sunday 30th     Chewton Gold Mine                                                                               Rob Langer leading

                        10am Whittlesea

We expect the Gold Mine tour to start at 1 pm, hence the route will be dictated by this fact. We’ll head for Flowerdale, Broadford, Pyalong and Lancefield for food and warmth after 115 km. We then proceed directly to Chewton via Redesdale and do the mine tour, followed by lunch in Castlemaine. The route home will likely include Daylesford, Trentham, Woodend, Romsey, Wallan and Whittlesea break-up. Expect around 350 scenic kilometres for the day through more open country with few tight, twisty roads.
