October 2004                        MSTCV Itinerary

Sunday 10th    Heathcote                                                                                        Paul Southwell leading

                        10 am Whittlesea

Paul will lead us on his favourite route through Kinglake West, Flowerdale, Strath Creek, Broadford, High Camp and Lancefield for first stop and morning tea. Next we’ll head north up along the bumpy road to Mia Mia and the back way into Heathcote, our lunch stop. Expect some little deviation as this is only a 60 km stretch. After lunch we’ll retrace the route as far south as the Emu Flat turn-off and work our way east through volcanic country back to Pyalong, Tallarook and Trawool to Yea for a splash of fuel before the final squirt over Junction Hill and Kinglake West for break-up. Expect around 350 km of easy riding.

Sunday 17th     Moto GP BBQ (short ride)                                                                    Rob Langer leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

A fair few of the Club members will be at the Island watching Rossi and company doing their thing. As per other years, a short ride on Sunday will precede a free Club-sponsored BBQ at Rob Langer’s home (390 Burwood Highway, Burwood) before watching the races on a big screen TV. Estimated start time 1 pm.  If you are travelling directly to Rob’s, please contact him or a Committee person to facilitate catering. Expect around 150 km in the morning. Last time we managed the Spurs.

Sunday 24th     Acheron Way – no dirt                                                                       Martin Hastie leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

Marty, on his weekly trip across the Black Spur in the company car, has investigated the Acheron Way (links Narbethong to Mt Donna Buang/Warburton) and established that the first 15 km of it are made from the Narberthong end. But the last bit is still slippery dirt and not worth the hassle, particularly if it has rained recently. Hence, the Club ride will be across the Black Spur, up the Acheron Way to the end of the bitumen and back, and then into Marysville for morning tea. Then up to Cumberland Junction, down the Reefton and back to Warburton for lunch.  Expect around 140 km for the day. The keen may be tempted to visit Mt Donna Buang if the weather is on the warm side.

Friday 29th October Winton Ride Day

$100, gates open 8am for 10am to 4.30am riding, half hour sessions alternating with cars, no CAMS licence required, ring Dave Ward on 0413-624-598 for more details. Sounds like a bargain.

Fri 29th            Melb Cup Weekend, Towong                                                           Ben Warden leading to Tue 2nd             9.30 am Yarck

See elsewhere for more details. Some people are incorporating above Winton track day into long weekend. Worked well last time.  Some spots still available at Towong. Best riding in the country.

Sunday 31st     Brisbane Ranges                                                                                      Ian Payne leading                            10 am West Gate Shell Servo

Exford, Mt Wallace, Durdidwarrah twisties and Meredith for first stop. We’ll continue west picking up Grenville and Mt Buninyong, a visit to the fire tower and Lal Lal Falls viable options before late lunch at Ballan.  Greendale, Myrniong, Bacchus Marsh, Toolern Vale and Diggers Rest will see out the ride. Expect around 300 km for the day on interesting and seldom ridden western district roads.

November 2004

Thurs. 4th        Social Sip, 7 pm Whitehorse Inn, 5 Burwood Rd, Hawthorn

Catch up with the gossip, collect your magazine and save the Club some postage. You never know who you might meet. Throw in some reasonably priced main meals, bargain monster desserts with coffee, a series of theme jokes from the members and you are in for an entertaining evening. We are shuffled out at 10 am, but groups linger outside for much longer. Give it a try. Take the car as there is plenty of parking.
