September 2004                             MSTCV Itinerary

Sunday 5th     Dams Ride (short ride)                                                                      Trevor Harris leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

Come and see where your drinking water is stored, and get some history while you're at it.  We'll be visiting the Sugarloaf, Yan Yean, and Maroondah Reservoirs. Then, depending on the weather, we’ll head over the Black and Reefton Spurs to the Upper Yarra Dam. Alternatively, we’ll head directly across to the Silvan and Cardinia reservoirs.  Possibly we'll do the lot, and work up a thirst...  Expect around 300 easy kilometres for the day. Though nominally a short ride, it will be busy, with lots of stops.

Sunday 12th     Daylesford                                                                                              Rob Langer leading

                        10am Whittlesea

Rob loves those roads out towards Castlemaine – specifically the route we followed on the Gold Mine tour with only the four of us – and so we will do it again, this time hopefully a few more riders will get the benefit.  First stop will be Broadford via Flowerdale, then across to Pyalong, Lancefield, Kyneton, Metcalfe, Chewton and Castlemaine for lunch. Then we’ll head south to Daylesford, Trentham, Woodend, over Mt Macedon and breaking up at Gisborne on the Calder Highway. A great variety of roads with something for everyone. Expect about 380 km for the day.

Sunday 19th     Kinglake                                                                                             Bruce Saville   leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

A ride around the nearby ranges always offers plenty of excitement. Chances are we’ll do Chum and Myers Creek Roads before heading across to Kinglake, possibly via Christmas Hills and St Andrews for a spot of morning tea and a ciggy. Red Wing Honda is running a club meet at Broadford and Bruce may take advantage of the opportunity. Entry is free. Lunch at the track may just be the ticket to while away an hour and watch the some great racing at close quarters. Lots of twisties, around 250 km for the day.

Sunday 26th     Drouin Counter lunch, 1pm                                                                 Ben Warden leading

                        10 am Berwick

Korumburra via the magic Warragul Road for morning tea, if you are chasing the Club. I’ll try to leave right on time! Then south towards Kongwak, back to Loch and Drouin for lunch at the pub. Everything from high speed sweepers to gnarly, narrow tight twisties, views always enticing, but never glanced at for more than a split second. Cliffs and farmers abound. After lunch we’ll zig-zag our way towards Noojee and finish at Yara Junction via the Powelltown road. More great roads. Expect around 250 km. Be there.

October 2004

Sunday 3rd      Loch                                                                                                      Paul Grosser leading

                        10 am Berwick

Please support Paul (ZX12R) on his first lead, and the first ride on the new itinerary. The route will be the back roads parallel to the highway to Drouin, then south to Loch via Nyora for morning tea. Then south along the ridge with spectacular views left and right of the ocean down to Wonthaggi. Depending on the weather and time we could work our way across to Mirboo North and home via Hill End, or make our way back to Drouin and Pakenham. The ride is still in the planning stage. Expect around 400 km.

Thurs. 7th        Social Sip, 7 pm Whitehorse Inn, 5 Burwood Rd, Hawthorn

Catch up with the gossip, collect your magazine and save the Club some postage. You never know whom you might meet. Throw in some reasonably priced main meals, bargain monster deserts with coffee thrown in, a series of theme jokes from the members – it was baby jokes last time – and you are in for an entertaining evening. We are shuffled out at 10 am, but groups linger outside for much longer. Give it a try. Take the car as there is plenty of parking.
