January 2005                        MSTCV Itinerary

Sunday 9th       Eildon                                                                                            Pete Weyermayr leading             10 am Yarra Glen

Join Pete for the first ride of the year. The likely route is up and down the Myers and Chum Creek Roads, then across the Black Spur to Marysville for morning tea and fuel. Then onto Buxton and Taggerty and down the Torbreck River road till it turns to dirt. We’ll regroup at the bridge before enjoying more uninterrupted twisty roads back to Eildon for lunch. After lunch we’ll head up the Skyline Road offering spectacular views of Eildon and Fraser National Park. Then across the Molesworth Road to Yea with break-up at Kinglake West. This ride may not suit inexperienced riders or first time Club riders. Expect around 300 fun kilometres for the day.

Fri. 14th           Lake Mountain Night Ride                                                                   Geoff Jones leading

6.30 pm Yarra Glen Pub, 8.30 pm ride departs

Geoff is planning on making a night of it and has booked into the Yarra Glen Pub. As per other years, after first eating a meal we will go for a short ride to Lake Mountain via the Black Spur and Marysville. If you have jacked up the rear end of your suspension, or dropped the forks,  such that your headlight points at the ground, now might be a good time to adjust it. Given the absolute darkness in the mountains, a good headlight spread and penetration is obligatory. What tends to happen is that people follow the bike with a good headlight! Always fun, the leader often playing dodgem with the furry creatures. We may break up at Marysville Café if it is still open. Expect around 150 km for the evening.

Sunday 16th     Mirboo                                                                                                  Ben Warden leading

                        10 am Berwick

The quest for the perfect sweeper starts in Gippsland. Lots of km, lots of corners, 20 years of searching for the best combo. Appropriate breaks. Good tyres essential. Home by 5 pm. Be there.

Sunday 23rd    Highlands                                                                                               Rob Langer leading

                        10 am Whittlesea

First stop Lancefield via Flowerdale, Strath Creek, Broadford and Pyalong. Then we’ll head north to Emu Flat and back to Pyalong and more good roads to Seymour, Highlands and back to Yea for lunch. The last hop is unclear but we’ll likely break-up in Kinglake West. Expect around 320 km for the day.

Sunday 30th     Dams Ride                                                                                         Trevor Harris leading

                        10 am Berwick

Come and see where your drinking water comes from, and get some history while you're at it.  From Berwick we'll be visiting the Sylvan and Cardinia reservoirs, and then it'll be up the Warburton Highway to the Upper Yarra Dam. Depending on the weather, either over the Spurs or back down the Warbie Highway and across to Healesville, Kinglake and Yan Yean. Both options are good. This is a nominal short ride. Expect around 180 –220 km for the day depending on the route.

Weekend 26th –29th    Australia Day Weekend, Towong. See elsewhere for more info.

February 2005

Thurs. 3rd        Social Sip, 7 pm Whitehorse Inn, 5 Burwood Rd, Hawthorn

Catch up with the gossip, collect your magazine and new itinerary. You never know who you might meet. Throw in some reasonably priced main meals, bargain monster desserts with coffee, a series of theme jokes from the members and you are in for an entertaining evening. We are shuffled out at 10 am, but groups linger outside for much longer. Give it a try. Take the car as there is plenty of parking.
