April 2005 Who’s News

Peter Parissis (YZF1000) crashed on the Fraser National Park Road (Alexandra end, a couple of corners from the bottom) on Martin Hastie’s Alexandra Ride, Sunday 17th April. He was air-lifted to the Alfred Hospital where broken ribs (at least) were diagnosed. Communication that night with his brother George carrying Peter’s mobile phone indicated that he was okay and likely to be released, this information conveyed to the members via an email the next day. Trevor Harris, who assisted at the accident scene, later informed me that he visited him on Tuesday night, still in hospital, and would be so for the rest of the week. Peter’s status is currently unknown, communication proving difficult. We wish him a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him riding again. His bike, by all accounts, was severely damaged. George recovered it the next day. See write-up for more information.

Barbara Peters, wife of Clifford Peters and our companion in Tasmania, suffered a coronary heart attack early in the month. Barb spent 4 days in Geelong Hospital and had a stint installed. She is back home now, recouperating. We wish her a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her back on the internet.

Meanwhile Cliff has been wearing a plaster cast on his wrist for the last 5 weeks after being in denial when he crashed his bike and broke his scaphoid in Tasmania, early March. The cast was recently changed when the old one got all sweaty and smelly and covered in sheep dip, etc. Cliff is still experiencing pain and fears the “plaster sentence” may go for longer than the original 8 weeks. Nevertheless, in true MSTCV spirit, Cliff managed a ride down the Great Ocean Road last weekend with Ron Johnston, Danny Hawker and with his plaster cast.

Email from Ern Reeders last week: The deed is done! Tested a Sprint ST and liked it, and got a new '04 model at a run-out price with a really good trade-in on the TDM.  Factory panniers and handgrip warmers thrown in. Not as well fettled as the VFR800 but I like the motor more, noisy though it is.  Ian Black and I should make a noticeable pair ;-} Cheers, Ern.

The MTCV Home Page took 396 hits during April and has taken 23,755 since April 1996.  We also got some SPAM on the visitor’s page which I have removed.  It is so long that anyone has visited and commented I thought it was broken. At least that is resolved.

Seen April Social Sip: Lyn Duncan, Ian Payne, Ben and Julie warden, Nigel Hellyer, Peter Feistl, Peter Philferan, Martin Hastie, Paul Southwell, Bill Wee, Ron Johnston and Trevor and Anne Harris. 13 people, a little down on previous months, maybe the lack of an email reminder the culprit.

The Club Participant of the Year is based on aggregate points accumulated at 1 point per ride, an extra point for leading or being rear rider, and 1 point per Magazine article (maximum 2 per Magazine). Attending 1 or more days of a weekend event scores 3 points for leading, 3 for rear riding duties and 2 points for participating.

The final top 10 scorers are: Ben Warden (95), Ian Payne (61.5), Ron Johnston (56), Paul Southwell (55), Robert Langer (45.5), Martin Hastie (42), Trevor Harris (39.5), Nigel Hellyer (34), Joel Haley (31), and Peter Weyermayr (30).  All positions remained the same relative to each other, apart from Peter Weyermayr dropping another couple of places with the early arrival baby Danielle this month putting a stop to riding.  The standout person in the last couple of months has been Lyn Duncan who has scored 27 points since rejoining the Club in late January.  Of the last possible 26 participation opportunities, she has participated in 23, including the last 16 of 16. She finished 11th in the final score with only two months riding. An outstanding effort
