August 2006                          MSTCV Itinerary

Sunday 6th       Loch                                                                                                      Ben Warden leading

10 am Berwick

Our nominated leader, Paul Grosser, seems to have put wedding rehearsal arrangements above leading the prestigious MSTCV event. We wish him well. If Ben ends up leading this ride, make sure you are on time or you run the risk of being left behind, as Breht found out on the Licola ride last month. First stop Loch Café via Drouin and the Main South Road to Poowong. The next loop south is filled with interesting twists and turns picking up Woolamai and Kilcunda in a figure of eight ending up back at the café for lunch. You’ll catch glimpses of the sea in all sorts of unexpected directions. The meals are large. Final run back to Warragul and Powelltown to break up in Launching Place. Almost non-stop medium to fast corners, a broad variety of roads but tending to the wide, well-made end of the spectrum. Lots of up and down hill climbing as well. Not suitable for inexperienced riders. Expect around 320 km for the day.

Sunday 13th     Strathbogie                                                                                            Ern Reeders leading

                        10 am Whittlesea

This ride will take in some little known roads in North Central Victoria. Depending on the weather, expect around 430 km for the day.  Provisional route: Flowerdale, Strath Creek, Highlands, Caveat, Gobur, Merton (first stop).  Then on to Strathbogie and Euroa (short leg) for lunch.  Back to Violet Town, Strathbogie, Merton, Yarck with possible loop to Alexandra to Molesworth and Yea ending at Kinglake West.  This ride will give your suspenders a workout and cover bends from short and bumpy to smooth sweepers.  In the middle of this chocolate is a small but very smooth centre that we'll do twice.

Sat. 19th          Club 50th Birthday Party, Marks Place

                        6.30 pm

See Who’s News for update. This is a pre-paid event so buy your ticket fast to avoid disappointment.

Sunday 20th    Marysville                                                                                              Dave Ward leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

A short ride picking up the Reefton and Black Spurs for those recovering from the night before. First stop Warburton if you are running late. Expect around 180 km for the day.

Sunday 27th     Reefton Spur via Cockatoo                                                          Breht Emmerson leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

According to Breht’s detailed Excel spread sheet schedule of towns, roads, and distances, this ride will pick up the usual suspects of Myers and Chum Creek Roads to Healesville, and then up and over Don Road (3.5 km of tight, twisty dirt) down to Launching Place. Then on to Cockatoo and back up Macclesfield Road for morning tea at Seville after 122.5 km. After the break we’ll head to Warburton and the Reefton Spur with the possibility of roadside snow around the Lake Mountain turnoff, and then down to Marysville for lunch after a further 90 km. Last hop will pick up the Black Spur, Myers Creek Road to Toolangi and Kinglake, then down the St Andrews Road to finish at Kangaroo Ground after a total of 305.7 km. Breht also notes the availability of premium and unleaded fuel at each stop, but I guess you have to be there to get a copy of this research. A ride not for the feint-hearted and will not suit inexperienced riders. Should be tons of fun though.

September  2006
