December 2006                              MSTCV Itinerary

Sunday 10th    Coalville (Gippsland, near Moe)                                                         Ben Warden leading

                        10 am Berwick

Loch first stop for morning tea if you are running late. Then on to Mirboo North with a smidge of dirt near Arawata. After lunch we’ll continue north through Thorpdale and on to Coalville and Moe. Break-up at Longwarry North via Jindivick. Another option is to continue on through the Neerims and Noojee to break-up at Powelltown. Tons of twisty, seldom used roads. You’ll need plenty of meat on your tyres as the roads are very abrasive. “One last ride” won’t wash. Expect around 350 km for the day.

Sat. 16th          Free Xmas BBQ, Fairfield Park, Melways 30J12

                        12-4pm

The Club will provide a BBQ lunch – meat, bread, salad and fruit salad for desert. It will also provide a few litres of cordial, otherwise bring your own refreshments and chairs. We are not far from the Boat House so a paddle in a gentleman’s skiff upstream for an hour or so is the go later in the afternoon.

Sunday 17th     Maldon                                                                                                   Geoff Jones leading

                        10 am Whittlesea

A quick phone call to Geoff has him spitting out the route: Flowerdale, Broadford, Glenaroua, Pyalong, Lancefield (115 km, morning tea); Carlsruhe, Kyneton, Metcalfe, Sutton Grange, Harcourt, Maldon (lunch); Chewton, Fryers Town, Guildford, Daylesford (fuel?); Trentham, Blackwood, Greendale, Myrniong, Bacchus Marsh, Diggers Rest (break-up). Expect an easy 420 km for the day with every possible variety of road and countryside (rainforest, volcanic, undulating hills, flat plains). Be there.

Sunday 24th     Mt Donna Buang                                                                                   Dave Ward leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

Vice Captain Breht Emmerson was down to lead this one but due to the recent demise of his bike, leathers, helmet and gloves, he is unable to do so. Dave has stepped into the breach. Probable route will be up Chum Creek and down Myers Creek Roads, then across to Warburton and up Mt Donna Buang before returning to Warburton for morning tea/early lunch at the bakery after 120 km.  Next hop around the Reefton Spur to finish at either Marysville (70 km) or Healesville (100km). Expect around 220 km of mainly tight twisty roads for the day. You’ll certainly get your money’s worth on this short ride.

26th Dec.         Xmas Camp, Porepunkah

– 2nd Jan.        (make your own way – see elsewhere for more details)

It is important to notify Ian of your intention to camp under “The Willows” with other club members so that the appropriate number of sites can be reserved. It also helps with sharing the costs. Great roads, great weather, excellent family friendly caravan park, lots to see and do each day. Make the effort.

January  2007

Sunday 7th       Marysville (short ride)                                                                            Dave Ward leading

10 am Yarra Glen

Dave might lead us through to Lake Mountain as a variation on the Mt Donna Buang ride. It may be quite a relief to escape the expected high temperatures at this time of the year. He’ll be on his new GSXR600, well run in by now, suspension fully sorted and sticky tyres fitted. The ride typically finishes at Marysville for a casual lunch while Dave heads back home to start work mid-afternoon. Expect around 180 exciting kilometers for the day.
