January 2006                        MSTCV Itinerary

Sunday 8th       Reefton and Black Spurs                                                             Breht Emmerson leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

Join Breht for his first lead on his new Honda CBR954 for a ride amongst well known and favourite Club roads in the eastern ranges surrounding Melbourne. We’ll visit Toolangi via Chum Creek Road and Healesville via Myers Creek Road before working our way across to Woori Yallock and down to through Cockatoo and back to Seville for morning tea after 105 km. Then back to Woori Yallock and on to the highway to Warburton. Then up the Reefton Spur and around to Marysville for lunch after 92 km.  After a leisurely break we’ll head for the coolness of the Black Spur. At Healesville it’s back to Toolangi and across to Kinglake, then down the St Andrews road to break up at Kangaroo Ground. Expect about 290 km of fun filled twisty roads for the day. Good tyres essential.

Fri. 13th           Lake Mountain Night Ride                                                                   Geoff Jones leading

6.30 pm Yarra Glen Pub, leave 8.30 pm

One of our annual rides, the night ride normally attracts quite a few riders. The opportunity exists to enjoy a meal with the gang before hand or if time is an issue, just turn up at the designated leave time and enjoy the short ride of about 90 km.  Typically we head across the Black Spur via Healesville and then up to Marysville and on to Lake Mountain, the light now having faded completely. The opportunity for the corner marking to go awry is most prevalent at night so make sure you remain visible to oncoming riders. The other issue is headlights. With a lot of riders quickening up their steering by dropping the forks through the clamps, often the headlight is pointing at the ground and is not much use. Conversely carrying a pillion may see your light searching for the night sky. So adjust ‘em up against the fence.

Sunday 15th     Thompson Dam via Moe                                                                 Paul Southwell leading

                        10 am Berwick

Paul had so much fun when Trevor last led this ride that he immediately volunteered to lead this ride at the next opportunity. From Berwick we’ll head down to Longwarry and cross the Highway to Labertouche and Jindivick picking up the Old Sale Road to Moe for morning tea after 110 km. Then on to Yallourn North, Tyers and in the back way to Erica and Thompson Dam. The fuel stops are a bit awkward and we’ll have to head back to Moe for fuel and late lunch before back-tracking to the Hill End road to Noojee and Powelltown for afternoon tea and probable break up point. Lots of great twisty roads but ride will not suit inexperienced riders or first time Club riders. Expect around 420 km for the day.

Sunday 22nd    Mt Baw Baw                                                                                       Lyn Duncan  leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

If it is very hot we’ll ride directly from Yarra Glen across to Healesville and down to Yarra Junction, Powelltown and Noojee for morning tea. After replenishing our energy levels we’ll ride the 50 km of twisty roads to the cool summit of Mt Baw Baw, and then 50 km back for lunch and another break. Depending on conditions and rider fitness, we may do a loop south towards Warragul and back to Yarra Junction for breakup.  Expect about 220 km for the day if hot, or around 330 km if temperate conditions.

Thu. 26th – Sun 29th  Jan.      Australia Day Weekend, Towong – see elsewhere for details

                        10 am Berwick

Be fascinated by Trevor’s expert knowledge at each of the dams we visit throughout the day. Lots of stops. May suit pillion riders. Reefton Spur a possibility. Expect around 280 km for the day.
