It’s early morning and the rain is still falling from the storms Saturday night. I get organised and put on my waterproof gear not having used it since my last lead and spill on the Jamieson Road. Off early along the ring road with a light drizzle, then onto Plenty Road where the drizzle turns to light rain, getting to Whittlesea around 9.30am.

I did a pre-ride last week and tried to find different roads, but I only found ones that had sections of gravel. So I did another pre-ride two days ago, thinking to do the reverse route. Now looking at the rain on top of the hills from Whittlesea made the decision easy.

10am came and went and no one else had turned up. I waited a little longer until Paul Punicki arrived on his new CBR600 F having traded in his Kwaka. We discussed the weather and decided to cancel the ride.

Later, while chewing the fat on bikes and such, Lyn Duncan on her GSX ZZ arrived complete with a bad cold. While riding up Plenty Road she thought “Why did I come out for a ride while feeling so green?” We chatted a while longer and then Lyn, wanted a warming coffee, convinced Paul to go into town for one. I decided to go home and do some chores.  The weather improved and it turned out a warm day. Maybe next time it might be a bit more inviting for other riders.
