October 2006                        MSTCV Itinerary

Sunday 8th       Boolara (Gippsland)                                                                                  Ian Payne leading

                        10 am Berwick

Ian has volunteered to lead this ride as Ben and Julie head north for a visit to Dubbo Zoo. Starting at Berwick, the route will be Drouin, Ranceby and Loch for morning tea. From Loch we’ll head across the Arawata 3 km of good dirt picking up the excellent roads heading for Dumbalk and Mirboo North, deviating via Boolara and back up the twisties to Mirboo North for lunch. Lots of options exist for a fun way home including a loop through Hallston and back through Thorpdale and Trafalgar for fuel. Then the Old Sale Rd, Crossover twisties and Jindivick. Expect around 350 km for the day. Good tyres essential.

Sunday 15th    Meredith                                                                                                 Geoff Jones leading

10 am West Gate Shell Servo

Out through Werribee via the Freeway (watch out for speed cameras under the bridges), past the You Yangs to Yanakie and Maude where the real twisties begin. Heading north through the Brisbane Ranges National Park we’ll break at Meredith for fuel and recovery. Next a brilliant road through to Durdidwarrah, then south towards Anakie completing a loop of the ranges before riding the interesting but much straighter roads through to Bacchus Marsh. On to Myrniong, Greendale, and Trentham on wide, fast sweepers - perfect for modern day sports bikes. Spring Hill followed by lunch at Kyneton. Then we’ll continue east through Lancefield, Pyalong, Broadford, and Strath Creek to break up at Kinglake West with opportunities for extended riding down through to St Andrews. Expect around 370 km for the day.

Sunday 22nd    Noojee Tool Shed                                                                              Ron Johnston leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

Healesville, Myers and Chum Creek Roads, Woori Yallock, tricky new back roads through to Gladysdale and on to Powelltown and Noojee for lunch at the famous Tool Shed Hotel.  It is a rough and ready sort of place and service is generally very slow. Allow at least 90 minutes for lunch.  After eating the ride will either continue down into Gippsland through the various Neerims and maybe a loop back through Hill End to break up at Yarra Junction, or alternatively, shoot across the Reefton and Black Spurs.  Lots of twisty roads either way. Expect around 320 km for the day.

Sunday 22nd    Winton round of the Australian Superbikes.      A group are heading up by car. Ring Ben.

Sunday 29th     Licola                                                                                                Paul Southwell leading

                        10 am Berwick

Old Sale Road, Moe for morning tea. Yallourn North, Tyers, Heyfield (fuel), Licola, Wellington River and back to Licola for lunch. Return to Glenmaggie and back roads to Toongabbie and Tyers for more fuel and food. Home via Hill End, Noojee, Powelltown and Yarra Junction. Expect around 430 km for the day. This ride will not suit inexperienced riders due to the length and technical and unforgiving nature of the roads. Good tyres essential. Poor tyres will be turned away. Sensational ride. Be there.
