February 2007                      MSTCV Itinerary

Sunday 4th       Coalville (Gippsland, near Moe)                                                         Ben Warden leading

                        10 am Berwick

Loch first stop for morning tea if you are running late. Then on to Mirboo North with a smidge of dirt near Arawata. After lunch we’ll continue north through Thorpdale and on to Coalville and Moe. Break-up at Longwarry North via Jindivick, Crossover and the Old Sale Road. Tons of twisty, seldom used roads. You’ll need plenty of meat on your tyres as the roads are very abrasive. “One last ride” won’t wash. Expect around 350 km for the day.

Sunday 11th     Eildon via Torbreck River                                                                 Tony Raditsis leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

Tony on his blue Yamaha TRX850 will lead us on today’s fun ride. The route will include the Black Spur, Marysville (splash of fuel for Misho and all Suzukis), Taggerty, Torbreck River Road, and Eildon for lunch. Lots of regrouping along the way. Then on to Fraser National Park, (options Dam Wall, Mt Pinninger Lookout, Jerusalem Creek), Alexandra, Molesworth, Yea, Kinglake West. Extreme care must be taken on the Torbreck River road heading for Jamieson as it has claimed many a rider over the years. This time of year it should be in excellent condition. Expect around 320 km for the day.

Sunday 18th    Trafalgar via Hill End                                                                          Ben Warden leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

During February there are a lot of rides with common elements so this ride I will deviate from the initial plan. First stop Drouin via Healesville, Powelltown and Crossover. Then down towards Leongatha and Dumbalk (4 km of good dirt) and around to Mirboo North for lunch. Then up to Trafalgar via the Thorpdale sweepers and on to Hill End and Noojee to regroup before breaking up at Powelltown again. Expect around 340 km for the day. Good tyres essential.  Ride may not suit inexperienced riders.

Sunday 25th    Loch                                                                                                           Ian Payne leading

                        10 am Berwick

The route will follow the roads parallel to the highway before veering south from Drouin to Loch for morning tea. We’ll probably continue south doing a big loop via Kilcunda and back to Loch for lunch, or possibly over to Korumburra to the bakery. Depending on the weather conditions and rider sentiments, another possibility is to head down to Wonthaggi and Inverloch. Back to Drouin to break-up, Melbourne 100 km down the freeway. Expect around 250 – 350 km for the day.

Sunday 4th       Walhalla                                                                                             Trevor Harris leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

While a few of us are swanning around the Apple Isle, Trevor will lead the mainlanders on the nearest thing to Tasmanian roads, a trip into Gippsland. The route will encompass the Myer and Chum Creek roads before cutting south to from Healesville to Powelltown and Noojee for first break. The return trip up to Mt Baw Baw summit consumes 100 km making Noojee the ideal lunch spot, possibly the Tool Shed motel for something different.
