May 2007                     MSTCV Itinerary

Sunday 6th      Whitfield Pub                                                                      Darryn Webster leading

9.30 am Whittlesea

The probable route is to Flowerdale and Yea for morning tea, then 75 km of highway to Mansfield before the pleasant 62 km of twisty roads to Tolmie and Whitfield for lunch at the pub. Bring your camera as there are some spectacular views along the way. The return trip back to Melbourne must retrace our steps back to Mansfield. Then on to Bonnie Doon and Yarck to regroup after 110 km before continuing south to Molesworth and across to Alexandra, Taggerty, Buxton, Marysville, Black Spur and Healesville. Expect around 400 km for the day.  It could be cold so come prepared for all weather conditions.

Sunday 13th     Snake Valley                                                                                          Geoff Jones leading

                        10 am Whittlesea

Didn’t know there were good roads out west? Check this lot out! Whittlesea, Flowerdale, Strath Creek, Broadford, Pyalong and Lancefield for morning tea after 110 km of excellent roads. On to Kyneton, Spring Hill, Daylesford, Creswick and Ballarat for lunch. Continue west to Smythesdale, Snake Valley, Linton, Cape Clear, Dereel, Meredith, Rokewood Junction (2 km of good dirt), Durdidwarrah, Anakie and Werribee to finish. Expect around 380 km for the day. Different roads, different places. Be there.

Sunday 20th     Boolara                                                                                                 Ben Warden leading

10 am Berwick

For a change of pace, I thought I would head to Moe for morning tea and then continue east to Tyers and Morwell before heading south to Yinnar, Boolarra and Mirboo North, picking up some little used roads.  We’ll do a couple loops around Mirboo North picking up Hallston and Dumbalk before continuing down to Leongatha and Korumburra for our next break. Last stop Longwarry via Drouin and Jindivick. Expect around 320 km for the day.  Road conditions will vary from bumpy to table top smooth. Look out for milk tankers, tractors and lost cows. May not suite first time riders. Good tyres essential.

Sunday 27th     Pyalong                                                                                             Paul Southwell leading

                        10 am Whittlesea

As Paul is swanning around Gabo Island feeding the seagulls and consequently not within mobile range, lets make up a route for him. Leaving Whittlesea we’ll head north up to Kinglake West in the mist and fog which will clear by Flowerdale. On to Strath Creek turning right to Kerrisdale and back towards Yea before picking up the Highlands Road (more fog) and on to Seymour for first break after 120 km. Then on to Glenaroua, Pyalong, Lancefield and Woodend after 80 km to lunch. Return via Mt Macedon, roll up hill on Straws Lane, Romsey, and break-up at Wallan. Expect around 260 km for the day.

June 2007

Thurs. 7th        Social Sip, Mark’s Place,

7 pm corner Grattan and Swanston Streets Carlton.

Collect your magazine, catch up with the gang in a social setting, find out whose got a new bike or going on holiday. Cheap food and beverages, fast service, plenty of visual distractions of the sporting memorabilia type.  Free and plentiful parking. All over by 10 pm. Usually 12-20 people. Why not?

Sunday 3rd      Reefton and Black Spurs                                                                       Dave Ward leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

Normally this would be marked as a short ride but with Dave’s new work arrangements, maybe not. I foresee a trip to Toolangi and back, then down to the Warburton Bakery for a latte before tackling the famous Reefton Spur.  Look out for John and Eric and a splash of snow.  On to Marysville for lunch and a chat to other serious motorcyclists out in the cold.  Break-up in Healesville after a fine ride over the Black Spur. Expect around 240 km for the day with an early finish in time to watch your favourite team.
