MSR   Itinerary                      December 2008

Sunday 7th      Mirboo North                                                                                      Ben Warden leading

10 am Berwick

Twenty years in the making, suit sports bike. First stop Loch if you are chasing the ride. Then on to Arawata (3 km of dirt) and Leongatha along endless twisty roads looking for the perfect sweeper,  touching on the Grand Ridge Road with spectacular views of rugged mountains and glimpses of the sea. Mirboo North bakery for lunch. Then we’ll do a loop down to Hallston and back to Mirboo North, if you’re looking for a short interlude, before pressing on to the Thorpdale corner sequence and Trafalgar for fuel. Last hop back to either Powelltown on all the back roads or Longwarry North depending on the time, riding conditions and participants’ desire. Expect around 410 km for the day. Good tyres essential!

Sunday 14th    Mt Baw Baw                                                                                     Misho Zrakic leading

10 am Yarra Glen

Lots of tight twisty roads today – almost unrelenting, so not suitable for first time or inexperienced riders. The route is out through Powelltown to Noojee for morning tea and fuel if you can’t go another 160 km. Next we’ll climb 50 km to the Mt Baw Baw summit on a narrow, tight and twisty road with no centre line and the occasional oncoming road-owning 4WD. It is hard on the arms with all the direction changes.  On the return trip we’ll turn at Icy Creek and head out to Hill End before turning right and right again to pick up the Old Sale Road back to Neerim South for late lunch. Sensational roads all the way. After the break its back to Powelltown to break-up after travelling 320 km of hard riding.  Again, good tyres essential.

Sunday 21st    Walhalla                                                                                             Ken Goederee leading

Friday 26th Dec. to Sunday 4th Jan. 2009   Xmas Camp,

Mt Buffalo Caravan Park Porepunkah

The Club has secured three unpowered tent sites under “The Willows”. Last year a few couples rented self contained cabins for the week, another good option. Another group have rented a house in Porepunkah. Ring 03-5756-2235 to secure a cabin or a powered site. Otherwise tell Ian Payne of your intention to camp with the group. See elsewhere for more details.  It looks like we will have a large contingent of people this year judging by the interest.

January 2009

Sunday 4th      Lake Mountain                                                                                      Peter Jones leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

First ride of the year with a small contingent still at the Christmas camp at Porepunkah. The route is up and down Chum and Myers Creek roads to Healesville, then across the Black Spur to Marysville for morning tea. Then up and down Lake Mountain, around the Reefton Spur and back to Warburton with the option of shooting up Mt Donna Buang – especially if it is hot – or heading into town for lunch. The ride will break up here. Expect around 250 km for the day.

Thurs. 8th       Social Sip, Mark’s Place

7 pm corner Grattan and Swanston Sts, Melways Reference 2B E8

Collect your magazine, catch up with the gossip, see your mates and sometimes their partners – a time for the partners to put a face to the names they have read about in the magazine. Enjoy a cheap pizza, view the sporting memorabilia, indulge in a rich cake, solve the share market crisis.  Be there.
