MSR Itinerary                      June  2008

Sunday 8th      Coal Creek Historical Site, Korumburra                                          Ben Warden leading

                        10 am Berwick

Marty is unable to lead this ride due to a recent back injury. But we’ll visit the famous coal diggings, learn a bit about our Victorian history and the money you spend not riding will easily cover the entrance fee. The plan is to spend morning tea at Loch (if you are chasing the ride), then head over to lunch at Coal Creek, then head home via more good roads. No exploring today, only a selection of the best roads in west Gippsland.  Expect around 250 km for the day.

Sunday 15th    Alexandra Poker Run  ♠ ♣ ♥ ♦                                                          Ben Warden leading

                        10 am Westgate Shell Servo

Just to mix it up I thought I would start at the WGSS. Five stops, five cards, best poker hand wins a Club membership. First stop Woodend via Mt Macedon after 105 km. Then past Hanging Rock to Lancefield and Seymour for fuel after another 75 km.  On to Highlands and Caveat, back to Yarck and around to Alexandra after 95 km.  The return route includes Molesworth, Yea and Kinglake West to finish at the Pheasant Creek Bakery after another 86 km. Tally up the best hand and congratulate the lucky winner.

Sunday 22nd   Tarra Bulga National Park                                                            Paul Southwell leading

10 am Berwick

First stop Moe via Jindivick and the Old Sale Road for morning tea after 110 km. Then out to Tyers before turning south to Traralgon, and over the Princes Highway and out to the Power Station and up the hills to Traralgon South to lunch at picturesque Balook.  On to Yarram for fuel along very tight and twisty sections of the Grand Ridge Road (all bitumen now) before returning to Traralgon via the Hyland Highway, a fantastic 55 km of uninterrupted flowing sweepers through the Great Dividing Range. We’ll probably regroup at Tyers before pushing on to Longwarry North and break-up after 380 km or so. Good tyres essential. This ride will not suit inexperienced riders or first time Club riders.

Sat. 28th          Flowerdale Pub                                                                                 Trevor Harris leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

A relatively short and easy ride taking in some of the good roads near Melbourne. From Yarra Glen we’ll head across to Healesville, up to Toolangi and Glenburn and on to Yea for the first regroup and morning tea. The second leg will see us travel via the Goulburn Valley Highway to Tallarook, across to Glenaroua and then down to Broadford. Continuing on to Strath Creek we will arrive for lunch at the Flowerdale Hotel after about 190 km. After lunch and conversation we will head down to Whittlesea to break up and head for home. The ride is suitable for P-platers, Learners and pillions.

Sunday 29th    Thompson Dam                                                                               Paul Southwell leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

An easy Saturday ride followed by a demanding Sunday ride should cater for all tastes over the weekend.  Given the start and finishing points the ride route is fairly self evident. Expect Noojee for morning tea and fuel, though no Premium. On through Hill End and left directly to Thompson’s Dam. Back to Rawson for lunch, or maybe press on to Tyers and Moe for a late lunch and fuel. The return trip will likely include the Old Sale Road and Jindivick to break-up at Longwarry North near the freeway. An alternative is to work our way back through the Neerims and Nayook to finish at Powelltown. Trevor often runs this ride in the reverse direction, another option. Around 290 km of brilliant roads for the day.
