Who’s News                May 2008

The MSR Home Page accumulated 935 hits during May, up 255 from last month. Total visits are 44,410 since April 1996. The new itinerary is up on the web. I have changed the “2008 Rides” format making it less squashy, removing the second column, now that we are putting a lot more information about each ride up on the web.  Any feedback appreciated.

The Committee is investigating making business cards to hand out to prospective members. The cards won’t say much other than ‘Ride Every Sunday” – our key differentiator from other clubs, and the web page address. In the background will be a ghosted Ducati 1098 and rider. We are debating what percentage ghosting will be displayed. In the same vein, we will make similar size fridge magnets.

Seen at the Annual General Meeting, Thursday 1st May 2008 at the Tower Hotel:  Tim Emons, Jacinta Thomas, Ron Johnston, Peter Philferan, Rob Langer, Nic Jacka, Dennis Lindemann, Randal Leacock, Darryn Webster, Marty and Donna Thompson, Ben and Julie Warden, Trevor Harris and Barbara Rolfe, Tony Raditsis, Ian Payne, Dave Ward and Bronwyn Manifold, Peter Feistl and Kate Stewart, and Ken Goederee.  22 people (21 members).  An excellent turnout on a cold night. No issues in gathering a quorum.  The Committee was re-elected unopposed, with some minor shuffling.  See inside front cover for people and positions. Ben finished off the evening with 10 minutes of photos from Jan 2008 till now.

The Club Participant of the Year is based on aggregate points accumulated at 1 point per ride, an extra point for leading or being rear rider, and 1 point per magazine article (maximum 2 per magazine). Attending one or more days of a weekend event scores 3 points for leading, 3 for rear riding duties and 2 points for participating.

The count is for the 2008/9 year ending at the 2009 AGM in May. The count after a month is Ben Warden (10), Randal Leacock (9), Misho Zrakic (7), Ian Payne (7), Nic Jacka (6), Dennis Lindemann (6), Dave Ward (5.5), Paul Southwell (5), Pina Garasi (5), and Cameron Stevens (4). A couple of new names starting well which is excellent to see.

Welcome to new member Geoffrey Ross riding a Triumph 675. It has taken him a couple of years to get to three rides but he has committed now!  We wish him many happy and safe rides with us.

Email from Peter Jones who crashed his bike on the Torbreck River Road a couple of months ago: I've got the bike back! It has taken a while and cost more than expected but I’m happy its back. It’s looking fantastic; just like new.  I will be joining you on the Alexandra Poker run for my first ride back.

Not sure what a poker run is but sure I'll enjoy it.

Don’t forget top renew your Club subscription by the end of the month. The Club relies on it’s membership fees to cover the cost of printing the magazine, purchasing of stamps and envelopes, paying domain name registration fees, incorporation fees, etc. Last year we made $40 and the fees haven’t risen. Not sure how long that is sustainable, so jump on the web page, go down to the bottom left and clink on bank details and pay your $40 as a direct debit. When the receipt comes forward it to the Treasurer and email the Secretary who will ensure you remain on the mailing list.
