MSR  Itinerary                      August 2009

Sunday 9th      Euroa via Strathbogie                                                                           Rob Langer leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

From Yarra Glen we’ll head directly to Healesville and across the Black Spur to Marysville pressing on to Buxton and Taggerty taking the back way in to Alexandra for morning tea after 105 km. After a break we’ll pass through Yarck, Gobur, Merton, and Strathbogie to reach Euroa for lunch at the cow themed roadhouse. Then we’ll head south through Creighton’s Creek to Caveat, Highlands, breaking up at Kinglake West. Expect around 340 km of very varied and seldom ridden roads for the day.

Sunday 16th   Mt Donna Buang and Lake Mountain                                   Dennis Lindemann leading

10 am Berwick

According to Dennis, “This is going to be a proper workout for rider and tyres with hardly any straight bits. First stop is Warburton via Gembrook to prepare for the mountains. Mount Donna Buang next - up and down – then on to the Reefton Spur for more twisties. Before stopping for lunch in Marysville, we’ll head up to Lake Mountain for a possible group photo and more twisties! Last bit will be through the Black Spur and heading up to Toolangi and down Chum Creek Road before breaking up in Healesville. A leisurely 250km for the day…”  Fair chance there will be snow, tourists and tolls.  Cross that bridge …

Sunday 23rd    Lake Eppalock                                                                                   Ben Warden leading

                        10 am Whittlesea

Birds migrate north in the winter, heading for warmer climes. So shall we. Hopefully the windy season will have abated. First stop Lancefield General Store after 110 km via Flowerdale and Strath Creek and Broadford if you are chasing the ride. Then up the Burke and Wills Track to Mia Mia, twisties followed by a long straight bumpy section. Maybe we’ll stop at the memorial propeller. On to Redesdale and Lake Eppalock which almost does not exist anymore, a further 123km. Interesting place names such as Axedale and Knowsley along back roads to Mia Mia again and Heathcote for lunch. Fairly direct route home through Tooborak, Seymour, Broadford, Wandong  to finish at Whittlesea coffee shop in the main street. Expect an easy 340 km for the day.

Sunday 30th    Kongwak                                                                                                Tim Emons leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

Tim is a man after my own heart: corners, corners, and more corners. From Yarra Glen we’ll head across to Healesville, up Chum Creek Road into the fog and rain, down Myers Creek Road into Healesville and across to Yarra Junction via Don Road (sticky wet slippery mud). Then on to Powelltown, Nayook, Neerim East and Neerim South for late morning tea. After a leisurely break we’ll head south down through Crossover, Old Sale Road and south again to Yarragon and Trafalgar where we’ll cross the princess Highway and head for Thorpdale (famous esses) and on to Mirboo North for lunch and fuel at the 200 km mark. After lunch we’ll work our way through Leongatha and around through Kongwak to Loch before picking up the fun but treacherous Korumburra Warragul road to Darnum, crossover, Jindivick to break up at Longwarry North. Home in the dark, two days to recover. Ride will not suit inexperienced riders; not recommended for first time Club riders.
