MSR  Itinerary                      June 2009

Sunday 5th      Hill End                                                                                           Paul Southwell  leading

                        10 am Yarra Glen

Given Paul’s predilection for early finishes, his recent crashes and now operation recovery, I suggest this ride will be short and sweet.  From Yarra Glen we’ll head across to Healesville and down to Yarra Junction, Powelltown and Noojee for morning tea. Then up to Icy Creek and across to the fantastic up-hill twisties to Hill End before veering right and down to the Old Sale Road, crossover sweepers and back to Neerin South to the Bakery and lunch. Break-up at either Longwarry via Jindivick, or Powelltown via Yallook. Easy 250 km for the day and home before the sun gets painfully low.

Sunday 12th   Loch                                                                                                   Henry Wright leading

10 am Berwick

According to Henry: "Leaving from Berwick, we'll head to Lang Lang and then Loch for an early morning tea. Next a loop through Glen Forbes before coming back past Almurta and Glen Alvie to Wonthaggi. We'll either have lunch at Wonthaggi or continue on to Leongatha, depending on the time. Then we will ride up Wild Dog Valley Road (3km of excellent, uphill, hard packed dirt around Arawata) picking up the Warragul Korumburra Road. Just after Strezelecki we'll take a detour to the spectacular lookout near Mt Worth (includes 1.4km section of dirt) overlooking the Moe Valley. Break-up at Drouin after 320 km of varied roads. It will be challenging in the wet so good tyres essential."

Sunday 19th    Steiglitz and Brisbane Ranges                                                             Geoff Jones leading

10 am Whittlesea

Nothing like waking up Mrs Jones to talk to her husband about riding bikes. Sorry Val.  In essence: Flowerdale, Strath Creek, Trawool, Tallarook, Pyalong, Emu Flat, Burke and Wills, Lancefield for lunch after 150 km.  Probably have serious regroup at the side of the road part way. After gathering our wits and warming up we’ll proceed west through Carlesruhe, the reservoirs, Spring Hill, Trentham, Blackwood, Greendale, Bacchus Marsh, Anakie, Durdidwarrah Road to Meredith for another breather and photo. Last leg back to Werribee  after negotiating the brilliant roads around the Brisbane Ranges through such towns as She Oaks, Maude, and Anakie. Expect plenty of kays, cold conditions, brilliant company, and tons of bikes.  Will not suit inexperienced riders. Good tyres essential. Likely to be an inspection prior to ride start.

Sunday 26th    Erica                                                                                           Dennis Lindemann leading

                        10 am Whittlesea

Route: Kinglake, Chum Creek, Powelltown, Icy Creek, Moe, Erica, Tyres, Old Sale Rd, Longwarry North
Estimated ride length: 314 km
Ride will not suit inexperienced riders; not recommended for first time Club riders.

Sunday 2nd     Mt Macedon                                                                                             Ian Payne leading

10 am West Gate Shell Servo

Over the Bolte Bridge and out past the airports to Bulla and the fun begins on Wild Dog Road. We’ll pass through Clarkefield and Kerrie on our way to early lunch at Lancefield. Then northwards to Mia Mia and west to Sutton Grange, Faraday (of school kids kidnapping fame), Chewton and Vaughan. Then 2.5 km of good dirt will link brilliant roads and cut off heaps of junk. On to Drummond and Spring Hill and around to Woodend for late lunch. Then up the now fogless Mt Macedon, followed by Straws Lane, Cameron corner, Romsey and Wallan to finish. Scenic 290 km for the day with close to Melbourne finish. Be there.
