After Powelltown town all civilisation disappears and the road rises through about 10km of medium tight swervery, carving its way through rainforest. The road is well maintained. This logging truck road is a little narrow at the start which means vehicles cut corners and throw up gravel on left turning bends in particular.
Prevailing damp conditions and bark on the road are also things to look out for, but generally less of an issue due to the volume of traffic.
After the initial tight section the road changes into beautifully surfaced bitumen with wide, fast sweepers. The scenery doesn't change much but now there's much more room to play. The bark and gravel problems disappear but dampness is still an issue after recent rainfall.
This is an excellent road that can form the start of a foray into West Gippsland.
An intersting short cut if you are heading for Warragul and want to avoid the main road is to turn right at White's Corner, four km before the Warragul - Noojee big "T" intersection. This road takes you up through Nayook coming out at Neerim. Good surface, little travelled.
