Mirboo North via Grand Ridge Road

Ben Warden leading
10am Officer South BP
Ride will not suit inexperienced riders; not recommended for first time Club riders.

This ride suits sports bikes - it strings together the best roads in Central Gippsland. First stop Korumburra Bakery via Drouin if you miss the start. (96 km) Then up through Arawata (3 km of dirt) and Leongatha along endless twisty roads looking for the perfect sweeper, touching on the Grand Ridge Road with spectacular views of rugged mountains and glimpses of the sea. Four years later and we will still see remnants of the fire damaged areas around Boolarra.

Mirboo North bakery for lunch pre-ceded by fuel at the top servo. (118km) Then we'll do a loop down to Hallston and back to Mirboo North before pressing on to the famous Thorpdale corner sequence and Trafalgar for fuel. (88km) The Hallston loop offers the chance to skip 60 km of twisties and have a breather for 35 minutes before rejoining the main group. Or jump on the back of your partner's bike.

After Trafalgar we'll cross the Prince's Highway and head for Old Sale Road and Neerim Junction to finish at Powelltown. (79km)

Total: ~ 2,518km

The Committee has booked accommodation at the NSW Sport and Recreation Centre in Jindabyne. This is lodge style accommodation with 2 beds per room (7 rooms) with shared bathroom facilities, and a large kitchen/living area with a big screen TV. We have stayed eight times before and are so impressed with the cost, quality and food, we keep coming back.

The Australia Day holiday falls on Thursday 26th of January. Given the distances involved (600km plus every day), a four day weekend allows us to take full advantage of the great location.

The plan is to ride up on Thursday, ride around the Snowy Mountains Friday and Saturday and return to Melbourne on Sunday. This means three nights accommodation. You'll need to take annual leave for the Friday.

Typically temperatures are in the high 30's at this time of year, but at this altitude the temperatures will be around 5 degrees cooler making for ideal riding conditions.

As usual, this special event is offered on a strictly first come, first served basis. A full payment of $127 is required, payable in to the Club bank account. The deposit buys three nights accommodation and the first night's meal. If you wish to stay less than three nights then you may choose to organise others to use the nights you are not using. It costs $127 no matter how many nights you stay.

A BBQ pack is being offered for the first night which includes sausages, steaks snd green salads. This allows us to eat as early or late as we wish on our own private back patio area.

All you need is your toothbrush, a change of clothes and near new tyres. Street legal, race replica tyres will not last much more than two days so regular road tyres are a more sensible option, unless you are prepared to change them.

The route for Day 1 is via Orbost and Delegate on the Bonang Highway. Brilliant roads for the whole weekend. Check out the Club Magazine for February 2011-2016 in the Members area.

Shorter Day rides will be organised for Days 2 and 3. A rest day is an option. Home will be via the way we came - great roads and relatively "safe".

This ride will not suit inexperienced riders; it is for Members only.

Places are limited to 14 people in the lodge. First in best dressed. The cost is sensational value: 3 nights accommodation and a substantial meal for $127.

Email the Secretary or Treasurer your e-bank transaction receipt to confirm your place.

Cancellation Policy: as the Club has to pay up front, the full and final amount ($127) is required. If you pull out, then you need to find a replacement to get your money back. Otherwise, no refunds.

Alternative Accommodation: there are two pubs in Jindabyne, a caravan park (cabins, on site vans, etc) and numerous motel options.
If there is a demand, we will book additonal units at the NSW Sport and Recretation Centre - at a slightly higher rate. These are excellent.

    Porepunkah Christmas Camp

9.00am Bright servo (Porepunkah side) each day

Over the past 15 years the Club has camped for about a week at the Mt Buffalo Caravan Park. Situated on the fork of the Ovens and Buckland Rivers it offers a fantastic range of activities including swimming, fishing and bush walking. Close by is the Smoko Trout Farm, the "Wandi Pub", the Hedge Maze, various berry, deer and nut farms, and an alpaca ranch. The famous Milawa wineries and cheese factory are close by.

Great road and dirt riding country abounds. Mt Buffalo offers a sensational 25 km climb to the scenic Chalet and lookouts. Nearby are good half-day rides to Falls Creek, Mt Hotham and Dartmouth Dam or full day rides into the Snowy Mountains and some of the best roads in the world. Who can forget Tawonga and Granya Gaps? On the flip side there are lots of fire trails and mountain tracks offering spectacular views of the surrounding alps, most of which can only be reached by 4WD or dirt bike. So, bring your road and dirt bikes, the missus and kids, the 4WD, pushbikes and swim shoes, ready for a great holiday.

Another good option is to rent a self-contained cabin for the week. Ring 03-5756-2235 to secure a cabin or a camp site. Alternatively, there are also budget motels and hotels nearby. Supermarket shopping is available at Bright, 6 km away.

Cancellation Policy: as per the Caravan Park cancellation policy - currently a non-refundable $100 for camp sites and cabins must be paid by the preceding September.
